About LA5EKA

LA5EKA, August 2013

I am LA5EKA, Gisle from Norway. An avid CW operator, and being born in 1970 made me 43 yrs old in 2013.

At my home in JO59EK, I have antennas up for all bands, a R8 vertical, FD-4 Windom, MA5B mini beam and a Create Log Periodic for 50 and up. I run mostly CW, but do the occasional SSB or digital QSO. My activity level varies quite a bit, but I am active all through the year.

Been a licensed radio amateur since 1996, when I got my technical license(LC4PAT). Early June 2000, I upgraded to Class A license. Yes, I've learned The Code, and yes it was easy, and yes I use it a lot. Ever heard of the Koch method ? It took me six weeks with half an hour training every second day. Piece of cake, really !

Outgoing QSL's. I sent over 2200 cards to the bureau during 2003, for QSO's dating back to June 2000. Sent about 1000 in January 2003, 5-600 in April, and 700 in August and about 500 in December. February 2005 I sent out approximately 1400 cards, mostly for QSO's made in 2004. Now in August 2008 I sent out 1529 cards via bureau for qso's made in 2005 to 2008. The bureau service can be extremely slow, and cards for rare countries are not forwarded to receiving bureaus more than once a year. I have a stack of almost 2000 cards (Sept. 2013) wainting to be signed and sent for the past couple of years. I try to send a card to every radio amateur I have contact with, one for each band/qso as well, if either part needs the card. So if you are waiting for my QSL card, it's on it's way.
I now mainly use LoTW for my awards, but still believe in sending the paper QSL as a courtesy.
